The Rally Argentina has been part of the World Rally Championship since its inaugural edition in 1980, except in 1982 when it was not contested, and in 2010 when it was scored for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
It has also been a valid date for the World Production Car Rally Championship since its inception in 1987, with 1995 and 2010 as the only exceptions. It is an event that is contested entirely on gravel.

Currently the race is centered in the city of Villa Carlos Paz, in Córdoba. Its distinctive features are the fords, waterfalls and old roads in the Sierras Grandes.
